Lucía Vergel is a peruvian artist based in Tiohtiá:ke (Montreal). She studied Journalism at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Peru, and worked as a journalist and proofreader for many years. Her passion about arts led her to move to Montreal, Canada, to change her career. She made a Certificate in Visual Arts at UQAM (2013), where she explored the basis of sculpture, painting and drawing.

During that period of discovery, she fell in love with the many possibilities of the tridimensional form and the interesting dialog it can stablish with the space, reason why she started a BFA in Sculpture at Concordia University. In June 2018, she graduated and received the Yves Gaucher Prize in Studio Arts due to her outstanding performance during her studies.

In her sculptural and performative work, Lucía Vergel endeavours to express a repressed emotion, a denial and a buried feeling that are deeply rooted in her personal experience as a woman, as a Latina, as a granddaughter of Chinese immigrants in Peru and as an immigrant in Canada.

Lucía's work has been presented at Eastern Bloc Gallery, Atelier Galerie 2112, Mainline Gallery and Artgang Gallery. Moreover, she has been published in Spirale Hors-Série N°2: Femmes et violence de masse.
